Today we started our expository writing about our stuffed animals. We always start our writing by brainstorming and collecting our ideas. Here are some pictures of us making webs about our stuffed animals before we start drafting!

Updates Galore!
Happy Monday Fantastic First Grade Families! I hope everyone had a great weekend!
We have been VERY busy in Room 11 ! We don't have a lot of time left, but we still have a lot of learning left to do!
In Math we are learning how to TELL TIME! We are practicing reading clocks, writing the time, and even drawing the hands on clocks! We are learning to tell time to the HOUR and HALF HOUR. Practicing this at home with your child is a great way to reinforce this. Not only is it part of our math curriculum, it is also an important life skill! After we take our Time Test we will move into MONEY! We will be learning coin recognition, counting coins, and showing different ways to make an amount of change. With the use of credit cards and debit cards, many first graders are unfamiliar with coins, so practicing at home is very beneficial! It's also very easy! Simply give your child a group of coins, have them sort them, then count! Getting familiar with the name and value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters will help your child greatly.
In Science we are wrapping up our weather unit just in time for EARTH DAY! Next Monday, April 22 is Earth Day. We will be learning what it means to reduce, reuse, and recycle, and also how we can help keep our earth clean.
MAP testing begins this week! Although first graders do not take the MAP test, we still show respect to the third, fourth, and fifth graders by being COMPLETELY silent when walking through the halls. For the next three weeks our schedule will be flip-flopped. Instead of going to block in the afternoon (12:50-1:40) we now go to block in the morning (8:55-9:45). This REALLY mixes us up! After lunch (11:40) we are working hard in our rooms until the end of the day. It's a long stretch of time for us, so please make sure you are sending a snack each day. This really helps to give the first graders a little break!
I hope everyone has a great week!
