A Terrific Tuesday!

In Math, we continue to work on place value. Using manipulatives or a place value chart helps us visualize the numbers we are working with.

With our short week we are really focusing in on our Star Sight Words. We know that Sight Words are words that we CANNOT stretch out. There is usually a tricky letter or sound in Sight Words that make them impossible to stretch out. This means we JUST HAVE TO KNOW THEM! Today we got with a partner for a few minutes to quiz them on their words!

Fabulous Friday!

Happy Friday Fantastic First Grade Families!

We have had an AWESOME week in Room 16! We have established MANY routines and procedures so we are really "in the swing of things" now!

During our Literacy block, both Mrs. Marting and I have been meeting with Guided Reading groups. When a student is not meeting with a teacher they are making a Daily 5 choice.

In Math, we have finished up our Number Sense unit and will be moving into PLACE VALUE! We will be learning how to:
Identify numbers by tens and ones
Write numbers in expanded notation
Determine greater than, less than, and equal to
AND SO MUCH MORE!

Today we worked with a partner on a 120 Chart Scavenger Hunt!

We took our second Spelling test today so expect to see that coming home in your child's Flyer Binder on Monday.

Today we had our very first MYSTERY READER! George's Aunt Joee came to our classroom to read a book she enjoyed as a First Grader - A Story, A Story by Gale E. Haley. Thank you to Joee for coming!

Laptops!

This afternoon our Fourth Grade buddies came to our room to help us log on to the laptops! Each First Grader has a username AND 10 digit password to type in, so it was VERY helpful to have their buddies here to "show them the ropes!" Once they logged on, each First Grader learned how to access the Internet and find our classroom blog. From the blog they can access Storyline Online and Symbaloo. We will continue to practice until each of us can do it all on our own!
